Highland Park Elementary School Renovation
The Highland Park Elementary School serves grades K-5 as a neighborhood school. This facility of 31,700 square feet was originally constructed in 1928 and expanded in 1965. Three portable classrooms were added in 2003 bringing the total square footage area to 35,100. Moser Pilon Nelson was selected in October 2009 by the Town of Manchester to provide design services, based on removal of the portables and additions totaling 7,900 square feet, meeting the State Department of Education’s “Renovation” as a like new facility, and the recent legislation of “High Performance” providing comparable design to LEED Silver criteria. Renovations were made to all educational and administrative spaces including the full replacement of the antiquated MEP systems, building envelope upgrades, full abatement, site improvements to rectify safety issues and provide new play areas. Additions include a new media center, classrooms, student support areas, and elevators.
Received the AIA Connecticut People’s Choice 2013 Award for favorite educational building project.
